Tangan plastik

Selalu juga masuk keluar different data centers tapi today first time aku masuk data center ni. Data center ni betul-betul kat tengah city. Kononnya one of the best data centers around. Aku pi situ sebab nak set-up p6-550 untuk one of our customers. Tengah dok buat kerja tu aku terpandang macam ada plastic cover atas rack yang aku dok godeh ni.



Bila aku ushar keliling baru perasan yang tak semua racks ada plastic ni. Setengah-setengah saja ada. Tak pernah lagi aku jumpa plastic cover ni, siap ada zip lagi. Mula aku ingat plastic cover sebab takut server kena ayaq kaa apa kaa...pelik laa pula kan. Yang aku tau bilik server tempat kerja lama aku saja pernah banjir masuk ayaq hujan. :P

Tak puas hati aku sebab tak tau menatang plastic ni buat apa. Jadi selamba laa aku pi tanya mamat yang dok kerja kat dalam data center tu. Rupanya plastic cover ni nak bagi sejuk server. Bila temperature bilik naik, depa akan zip turunkan plastic cover ni nak regulate certain area dalam data center tu. Macam tak logik tapi dah dia cakap macam tu aku malas nak tanya lebih-lebih takut nampak sangat bengap pula aku ni. Anyway, ni laa first time aku jumpa menatang plastic cover ni.

Lagi satu, nak masuk data center ni punyalah susah. Security ketat gila. Yang paling aku impress ialah hand biometric dia. Hanya orang yang ada cap tangan yang betul saja boleh buka pintu nak masuk data center ni. Macam cerita Mission Impossible...jeng jeng jen jen jeng jeng.

Cirque du Soleil

Tadi pi tengok Cirque du Soleil atau dalam bahasa omputeh "Circus of the Sun". Circus ni more like acrobatic showmanship sebab sekoq binatang pun takdak dalam show dia. Orang-orang dia memang skillful. Some of the feat yang depa buat memang amazing. Cirque du Soleil ni ada banyak-banyak show dan depa tukar show every year depends on which city they visit. Tahun ni show kat sini nama dia Dralion, a combination of dragon and lion. I can say puas hati lah tengok sebab overall memang entertaining show.

Minta tolong boleh ?

Kepada kawan-kawan yang kat Cyberjaya, tak kira lah GLUX or WDC or apa-apa team...tolonglah....tolonglah...aku minta tolong sangat ni...kalau nak logged call make sure log call betul-betul. Kalau P1 make sure lah P1. Cuba tanya diri sendiri dulu dalam 7-8 kali, call ni patut aku letak P1 ker tak? Kalau dah tanya 7-8 kali, jawapan masih kata "Yes, this is urgent nak mampus...sure P1 punya"....then log lah call as P1.

Ni sat P3, sat P1, sat P2, piraHHhHhhhHhh.......ingat main-main kaa? Kat sini tak dak helpdesk yang jaga telepon 24/7. Takdak orang monitor e-mail 24/7. So kalau call masuk tengah malam buta atau pukul 4-5 pagi, on-call hp engineer akan berdenyut-denyut bunyi SMS masuk, engineer yang tengah sedap tidoq tu kena bangkit pi layan call. Kalau call tuh valid, takpalah juga. Tapi just imagine asyik dapat call macam hampeh. Tak hangin kaa?

Minggu ni aku on-call duty, dah berapa kali aku getah macam ni. Bukan kata minggu ni saja, dari dulu pun asyik benda yang sama. Yang aku tak paham pasai apa semua call yang pelik-pelik aku dapat semua mai dari Cyberjaya.

AlphaServer ES40

I had my first taste of Tru64 today at one of our customer's site. It is an AlphaServer ES40 DEC6600 machine. This is really really an old machine. You know it's an old machine when you found out that it had storage raid array consisting of 10 x 9.1GB disks. One of the disks in the raid array failed and I had to replaced it. It really amazes me that the disk is bulky like a brick but yet the capacity size is only 9.1GB. Even my thumb drive in my pocket is 20GB.

Talking about old technology, anyone remembers the 5¼-inch floppy disk? Or the 3½-inch ones? I think I still have some lying around in my cabinet back in kampung. Not sure if it still works though. After all these years, probably all those floppies got demagnetized.

Hottest in the world

Hari ni parts of NSW and Victoria dah officially the hottest place in the world. Bush fire dok terbakar non-stop dah berhari-hari. And temperature kat certain region around Melbourne tak pernah turun below 40C for almost 2 weeks dah. Accoding to BBC, 35 orang dah mati so far kat Victoria.

Update at 5:20pm - According to AAP news, the death toll now is 65 and 700 homes burnt down.

Update at 10:00pm - At least 84 people have died. So far this the worst bush fires disaster in Australia.

Update 11/2/09 - So far a total of 181 confirmed dead, 500 injured, 1,000 homes destroyed and 902,000 acres of land torched.

Limo & Gija Jumulu

Semalam sebelum pi dinner kat luar, terasa nak pusing-pusing sat around city ambik angin. Masa tengah dok drive meronda tuh, kami nampak more than 10 limousines dok pi sana sini. Tak sure ada event apa kat city malam semalam. Macam-macam jenis limo ada, sporty new, oldies vintage, 70s, hummer dan ntah jenis apa lagi. Yang sempat tangkap gambar cuma 2 ni saja. Yang merah tuh Hummer Limousine, yang grey tu Limo ala-ala oldies.



Tak sangka city yang kecik macam ni pun ramai orang leh pakai/sewa limo. Kalau tak dak demand market, takkan ada orang nak offer service ni. Conclusion-nya ramai orang kaya kat city ni. Lepas tuh singgah sat kat King's Park. King's Park ni just 5 minutes drive away from our house. Dah lama tak singgah, saja singgah ambik angin sat.

Kami baru realise yang King's Park ni ada penghuni baru. Pokok Gija Jumulu atau omputeh sebut Boab Tree. Nampak macam pokok Baobab tapi lain sket. Tengok gambar yang hujung sekali tuh, penuh burung Lorikeet dok lepak kat ranting-ranting Gija Jumulu ni.



Yang amazing about pokok ni sebab pokok ni bukan asal kat sini. Pokok ni asal dari Kimberley region up north. Depa cabut pokok ni dan transport for 6 days for about 3200km through land journey. Lepas tu mai tanam kat King's Park ni. Tengok details about the journey kat pic below ni.

Cuba teka benda ni apa?

Dah lama kami teringin nak makan benda ni. Dulu masa kecik-kecik kat kampung selalu ada. Tak sangka kat sini pun boleh jumpa benda ni. Actually, orang rumah yang jumpa masa dia singgah kedai Ah Pek Kong nak beli some groceries yesterday.

Omputeh panggil "Preserved Sweet Melon"....Cuba teka apa benda ni? Hehehe.

Cerita hari ni...

Sejak beli kereta "baru", aku tak pernah lagi hantar for maintenance. Mileage pun dah almost time nak kena service, jadi tadi pagi sebelum pi kerja aku pun drop lah kereta kat mechanic then naik train pi office kerja. Since kereta ni under warranty, aku kena hantar ke selected mechanic yang dah di approve oleh warranty provider kat sini. Kat sini tak boleh main hantar kereta macam tu saja. Kena buat appoinment dulu. Kalau tak, jangan harap lah depa nak tengok kereta tu. Aku dah buat appointment since minggu lepas. So settle lah.

By petang, aku pun call mechanic, dia cakap kereta dah siap. Masa tu dah 4pm lebih. Kedai mechanic tutup pukul 5:30pm. Aku pun cargas pi train station. Biasalah, peak period, orang punyalah ramai. Aku pun tak berapa familiar nak naik train kat platform mana, sebab banyak sangat, siap dengan underground platform ntah apa lagi. Tengah dok kalut cari platform, aku pun decided nak tanya pak guard rail. Depa ni sama macam polis kat sini tapi jaga train stations saja. So level lagi tinggi dari pak guard biasa but lower sket dari polis. Uniform pun cun. Kira somewhere in between lah.

Aku pun tanya lah pak guard sorang ni,

Aku : "Excuse me, can you show me where is the Joondalup line platform?"
Guard : *tengok aku atas bawah* "Where are you from?"
Aku : *tengah blur sebab dah lambat* "Err..err..from the city." (Aku ingat dia tanya aku mai station tu dari mana)
Guard : "No, I mean originally. Where are you from?"
Aku : "Err...Malaysia."
Guard : "Which part of Malaysia?"
Aku : *bertambah blur* "Penang."
Guard : "Which part of Penang?"
Aku : *dalam hati dah cuak, apa kes pak guard ni pula soal asal usul aku ni, aku dah laa lambat siot* "Tanjung Tokong."
Guard : "OooOOoo...Melayu lah? Dah lama kat sini?"
Aku : *masih blur campur terkejut* "Melayu. Dah 2 tahun lebih kat sini. Melayu juga ka?" (Aku tanya sebab dia nampak macam Cina, tak rupa Melayu pun tapi bila tengok lama sikit memang sah Melayu laaa)
Guard : *sambil sengeh kat aku* "Tak, Siam. Melayu lah!"
Aku : "Ohhh...ohhhhh...tak nampak macam Melayu pun, ingat Cina kaa apa tadi."

Sempat lagi buat lawak mamat ni. Ciss. Terus sembang-sembang sat, exchange phone number, tak laa sembang lama sebab aku dah lambat gila. Tapi paling best bila aku dengar dia bagi direction kat aku...

"Hang jalan terus, lepas tu belok kiri kat depan tu. Nanti ada tangga. Ambik tangga tu turun bawah lepas tu belok kanan. Nanti jumpa tangga lagi satu. Turun lagi sekali. Joondalup line kat platform 1, dua level bawah underground."

Dah lama aku tak dengar orang bagi arahan dalam bahasa Melayu. Rasa best pula. Hehehe.

Dah sampai platform 1, terus naik train pi kedai mechanic. Sampai kat mechanic around 5pm camtu. Aku pun pi jumpa mechanic ni, omputeh la. Tanya semua ok ka, dia cakap ok. Dah siap boleh ambik kereta. Dia pun pass kunci kereta & service log book kat aku, aku pun ambik dan selambalah cakap thank you terus berambus nak pi start kereta.

Sekali mechanic ni dok jerit-jerit : "Mate!! Mate!! You have to pay for the service!!"
Aku yang blur balik : "Errr....really? I thought it's free since I got the car under warranty?"
Mechanic : "No, mate. You have to pay for the service. If any part of the car is broken, then it's covered under the warranty. But for the maintenance service, you have to pay. If you bought a brand new car, you still have to pay for the service. There is no such thing as free maintenance service here."
Aku : "Oh, ok." *malu seminit sat*

Lepas tu mamat ni dok leter 4-5 baris kat aku. Tapi politely lah. Sah-sah dia ingat mangkok ni mai dari ceruk mana ntah. Aku mana tau kat sini macam tu. Aku ingat dah sah kereta tu under warranty, semua sekali laa campur maintenance tak payah bayar.

Patut tadi aku mau kelentong kat dia kata Malaysia service kereta free saja. Bagi dia suspect respect sket, baru tauuuuuuuuuu. :P
