1) The Kingdom - Cerita pasal pak Arab mengamuk kat US compound in Saudi Arabia, lepas tu omputeh-omputeh ni nak try tangkap kepala ronda pak Arab. Very entertaining movie.

2) Lost in Translation - Cerita ni aku pun lost. Yang aku tau Scarlett Johansson memang lazat sekali dalam cerita ni. :P

3) Slumdog Millionaire - Cerita pasal rags to riches with a twist. Surprisingly very good movie. Plot cerita yang original. From the same director of Trainspotting, which I like a lot.

4) Trainspotting - Saja aku layan lagi sekali tengok cerita ni since dah tengok Slumdog Millionaire. Cerita ni pasal heroin addicts in Edinburgh. One of the best movie from the 90s.

Neverfail

Since company aku kerja ni provide almost all services related to Unix environment, sekali sekala aku kena juga attend site untuk perform "dirty" jobs. Dirty jobs basically kerja-kerja yang related dengan hardware maintenance macam library tape drives, printers, etc.

Macam hari ni, aku kena pi site sebab ada printer IBM 4234 yang ada printing problem & paper asyik jam. Before pi site, as usual aku akan try find out more about the equipment. Penat aku google, satu habuk pun tak dak info about printer ni. Aku dah agak printer ni mesti zaman pop yeh-yeh punya. Tepon tanya manager what should I do next, selamba dia cakap...just go to site and pretend you are the printer expert.

Aku dgn ofismate pun gamble pi site. Memang satu haram pun aku tak tau about printer ni. Bukan sebab model printer zaman tok kadok tapi memang aku tak tau menda pun about printing equipment. Ofismate aku pun sama macam aku, 2x5 bengong about printer juga. Tapi dah kerja, kena lah juga pi berlagak macam pandai. Sampai site, kami pun intro ourselves as the so called printer experts. Client tuh pun cakap, just do your stuff and give me a yell if you need anything.

Bila client dah blah, aku dengan ofismate pun...sengeh aku tengok hang, hang sengeh tengok aku. Nak buat apa pun tak tau. Tapi sebab dah so called "printer expert", kami pun mula godek printer ni. Buka satu-satu part. Punyalah kotoq berabuk dalam menatang ni. Aku rasa printer ni tak pernah kena cuci dari tahun Mahathir start jadi PM.



Dah la tak reti nak buat, tools pun takdak. Aku cuma bawa satu set screwdrivers & satu paint brush saja. Dengan paint brush tu plus dengan dok hembuih puhhh puhhh kami dua berjaya buang semua habuk dalam printer tu. Kalau orang tengok mesti gelak kaw-kaw punya. Dah confident macam bersih sket, kami pun start pasang balik satu-satu part printer tu. So far nampak so good. Panggil client suruh test print. Dia pun print...perghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....berjaya print dengan cunnya.

Memang tak sangka buah cempedak jadi buah nangka. Terer juga kami. Hehehehe. Almost 2 jam aku & ofismate kat site. Berjaya kelentong orang. Berjaya repair plus buat maintenance kat printer yang dah patut masuk lombong. Jadi sepanjang jalan balik from site tu, tak abis-abis kami dua sengeh layan poyo masing-masing.

We are actually that good. Hehehe. By the way, nama company client tu Neverfail Limited. Sapa yang boh nama tuh memang pak lawak. Neverfail? Yeah, right so.

Win32.Worm.Kido

A friend was having some problems with her laptop that she can't access certain websites and unable to update her anti-virus software. Running AVG, Spyware Blaster and Spybot did not pick up anything weird. Only Ad-Aware manage to pick the worm - Win32.Worm.Kido. This worm is also known as Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen and is very elusive. According to this article, its been around since last year and has infected almost 8.9 millions PCs world-wide.



Even though Ad-Aware detected the worm, it can't really remove the worm from the infected PC. I tried several times and rebooted the laptop but the worm is still there. With some help from google, here's how to remove the Downadup/Kido worm:

1) Unplug network cable from infected PC

2) In Windows XP, disables System Restore. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box.

3) From another laptop, download the Microsoft vulnerability fix according to your operating system version here and copy to a thumb drive.

4) Do the same for the worm removal tool. Download it here from another laptop and copy to a thumb drive.

5) Now attach the thumb drive to the infected machine and run both the downloaded tools.



6) Once finished, restart the computer.

7) Plug in the network cable, enable system restore, update the anti-virus and perform a full system scan.

Australia Day boat cruise

Sempena Australia Day tahun ni, tokey company bawa staff & family kat ofis sini layan naik boat cruise. Boat ni nama dia Sea Reward. Boat taklah besar or kecik sangat tapi maximum orang boleh naik dalam 30 orang macam tu.

Janji meet-up pukul 10:45am. Around 10:30 aku & wife dah sampai. Ofismate aku dengan family masing2 pun ada. Campur semua ada dalam 17 orang. Tepat pukul 11 pagi, Sea Reward ni pun bertolak from East Jetty in Fremantle. Trip ni just cruise along Swan River all the way up to the Perth City. Dekat 1 jam baru sampai shore Perth City.

Bila dah sampai city, boat ni pun melabuh and lepak sini around 2 jam. Masa ni pun dah lunch hour. We had lunch BBQ on the lower deck of the boat. Aku & wife pun layan juga, tapi seafood lah...ada salmon, barramundi, boiled prawns, fresh raw osyter, etc. One thing aku suka about my boss & family dia ni, depa memang ambil berat pasal bab ni. Jadi BBQ aku pun asing, tak campur. Siap balut clean foil semua. Jadi leh makan tanpa was-was. Aku pun tak bagi muka...dok ulang melantak raw oyster berkali-kali. :)



View city dari boat. Kalau perhati betul2 boleh nampak ferris wheel kat city. Baru dalam a few weeks benda ni ada. Konon nak juga macam London Eye. Tapi kecik saja ferri wheel ni, aku rasa maybe half of London Eye. Nanti bila free, nak juga aku try naik ferris wheel ni. Pic yang sebelah tuh pula King's Park. Nampak togel macam tuh sebab a few weeks ago, terbakar teruk. One of major bush fire kat sini. Lama juga terbakar, dari pagi aku pi ofis sampai aku balik kerja petang tu tak padam-padam lagi api. Kalau tak, cun King's Park ni.




Awek melayu tersesat tengah posing kat upper deck. Pic sebelah pula tengah bersosial-sosial dengan ofismate. Dok sibuk sembang sampai aku terlupa nak tangkap gambar scenery banyak-banyak. Memang cantiklah view sepanjang Swan River ni. Rumah mewah macam istana bersepah-sepah sepanjang river ni. Kami pass through Mosman Park. Mosman Park ni antara tempat elite kat sini. Yang kecoh Pak Lah beli rumah kat Perth, rumah kat Mosman Park ni lah. Nak tau camna elite ker tak, pic kat atas tu antara contoh rumah-rumah yang dok ada kat Mosman Park. Tu satu rumah saja, bukan 2-3 rumah. Just one whole complex for one house. Tapi tuh bukan rumah Pak Lah. :P

Lepas lunch, boat tuh pun start patah balik to Fremantle. By 3pm tepat dah sampai harbour. We say our goodbyes and bawa jalan masing-masing. Overall, memang happy and puas hati ikut boat cruise ni. Initially, agak reluctant juga nak join. Sebab dah sah-sah bukan cara kita...lagipun panas terik yang amat nowdays. Tapi on second thought, why not tak join? Bukan selalu nak merasa macam ni. Just good experience for us. It was fun. And was a great trip for both of us.

Sessi mencari balaci

Its time of the year again when the owner/MD of the company fly over from the east for his family annual vacation here. Last year, layan BBQ at his place in Freo. This year the plan is for a boat cruise in and about sini. That's the plan lah katanya. Coming Monday is Australia Day, and its a public holiday here. So tengoklah weekend ni jadi ker tak naik boat free. :)

Another significant event this week is me being an interviewer for the first time. Selalunya jadi interviewee tapi this time I'm sitting at the other end of the table. The Technical Services Manager and myself are busy filtering and interviewing several candidates for the post of my balaci junior engineer. Rasa riak, bongkak dan takbur yang melampau bila omputeh-omputeh ni kena tanya soalan-soalan dengan gua. Hehehe. Takdak lah riak, bongkak dan takbur....tapi poyo jugalah gua. AhakSs.

Proses application lebih kurang macam ni. Candidate hantar resume. Kalau resume cun, candidate kena ambik on-line personality test. Personality test ni takdak pass or fail. Just nak tengok if u have the right attitude and character to fit in the company. Kalau your profil match dengan apa yang company cari, then kena go through phone interview. Kalau lepas phone interview, barulah face to face interview dengan Tech Service Manager and aku.

Jadi dalam banyak-banyak application tu, ada 4 orang yang dapat panggil for face to face interview. Position yang vacant hanya satu. Dalam 4 orang tu, 2 local Aussies, 1 New Zealander and 1 dari Uganda. Camna mamat Uganda ni leh terlepas aku pun tak tau. Anyway, bila dah selesai semua interview yang dapat offer position ni omputeh New Zealand tu. Nombor 2 choice kami is mamat Uganda tu if mamat NZ ni decline job offer ni. Surprisingly, 2 ekoq mamat Aussies tuh fail kaw-kaw interview tu.

Sebenarnya, bukan kira sangat if tau technical skills or apa (its a junior position anyway) tapi more to the right display of character. Walaupun ni first time aku conduct interview, tapi antara point yang aku nampak from the whole process:

* Jangan menipu bila interview. Kalau tak tau, cakaplah tak tau. Janganlah goreng sampai hangit. People can tell if you are talking cock.
* Jangan gabra sangat. Relax and just answer the questions as best as possible.
* Jangan tanya soalan ntah apa-apa kat tukang interview. Contoh soalan bangang "Among all the candidates so far, what are my chances of getting this job?" Ni sapa yang interview sapa ni? Bengong.
* Jangan bagi jawapan bangang. Contoh soalan.."Where do you see yourself in 3 years time if you are successful in this application?" Contoh jawapan tak sesuai.."Hmmm...Aaaaa...Hmmmm...In 3 years time, I want to own a house, I want to travel to Europe again, I want to be in a senior position in the mining industry." Ting-tong ker apa ni?
* Jangan sangkut cermin-mata hitam kat kepala/rambut. Ni interview nak minta kerja jadi engineer bukan jadi peserta Australian Idol.
* Jangan kenyit mata kat tukang interview. Ada kaa sekoq mamat ni kenyit mata kat aku bila nak acknowldge something. Dah la kenyit mata, siap mulut bunyi "Chippp!" pula tu. Ingat aku aweks ka? Cinabeng.
* Pakailah kemas-kemas. Tolong butang baju elok-elok. Tak dak sapa nak tengok kalau bulu dada lu lebat kerinting atau lebat straight-cut.

All in all, its a good experience for me also. Baru first time conduct interview, gua dah rasa macam gua boss. Hahahahaha. *evil laugh*

Sunday sengal

Another lazy Sunday. Dok rumah melepak seharian. Tadi baru ada peluang tengok "Tropic Thunder". Movie ni dah berkali adik aku dok suruh tengok tapi tak dak masa till now. Memang bangang punya cerita. Funny but in a stupid kind of way. No wonder adik aku suka sangat. :P

Aku rasa movie ni one of Robert Downey Jr's best performance so far. Serius lawak macam bangang. Part paling best bila Robert Downey Jr (Kirk Lazarus) dengan Ben Stiller (Tugg Speedman) tengah face-off.

Sad

Khutbah Jumaat yang paling syahdu sekali hari ni. Khatib dok bercakap pasal Palestine dan aku rasa dia lost control of his emotions masa tu, terus dia menangis waktu khutbah. Dan bukan dia seorang saja yang menangis. Ramai yang kat situ pun menangis sama. Bukan budak kecik tapi orang-orang tua...yang dewasa ni menangis ramai-ramai. Tak pernah lagi aku tengok situation macam tu. Sampai waktu sembahyang Jumaat pun, teresak-resak pak imam baca Fatihah.

Manusia datang dari merata corok, dari merata negara tapi semua one in common. Aku pun tak tau nak describe feeling masa tu. Memang syahdu.

Occupation 101

With the recent development in Gaza, one has to wonder if there is still a chance of peace and stability in that region. One of my ex-housemates while I was in UK was a Palestinian from Gaza City. His name is Dr. Khamis. I never really get to know him that well. In retrospect, I do feel a pinch of regret for not making the effort to get to know him better.

Right now I wonder where he is? I wonder if he is safe with his family back in Gaza City? He told me that he's going straight back to Gaza City once he finished his study because that is his homeland. He does not want to be a refugee. He used to tell me how life was so difficult in Gaza, yet he is longing for his home. How one have to wait for almost 3 days just to pass the police border to get to one's home. I do pray for his safety. Hope he is doing ok.

If we thought our life is so damn hard take a look around us. Like a Tim Minchin's song "Some people have it worse than me", how true indeed. Please take your time to watch this great documentary about the occupation in Palestine and understand their plight for a normal life.
