I got myself a new toy today. I didn't really plan to buy the EEE so soon but from what I've heard it is almost sold out here in Australia. I could wait maybe for a couple of months before the new stock comes in (probably with better hardware specs)...but myself cannot "tahan" anymore.
Here are some of my hardware specs:
900MHz Intel Celeron, 512 MB DDR2, 4GB SSD.
WiFi 802.11b/g, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, 0.3 M built-in Camera.
Some pictures to compare the size of this subnotebook (it only weights 920g)...
The EEE with Sony Ericsson Z558i
The EEE with Dell Latitude D620
So far I find the keyboard quite all right considering its small size, you get used to it after a while, but the touchpad is a bit of hassle for me. It's not that bad but I would prefer to use a mouse instead. There are no internal CD/DVD player but we can connect to removable devices with its three USB 2.0 ports and a memory card slot. The default operating system is a modified version of Xandros which is actually based on Debian Linux. I am considering to install other OS (others have install Windows XP, Mac OS X, Ubuntu on the EEE) but Xandros seems OK for me for now.
Linux kernel 2.6.21.4...

Feeling the heat
By the look of things, I guess this year's summer is not going to be any different from last year because yesterday was the hottest Christmas ever at 42°C. And today the city hit the record high for the highest temperature for a long long time...it was a scorching 44.2°C. My wife and I went out to the city this morning around 10 am and we can definitely feel the heat wave. Even the wind blowing to your face does not feel that soothing anymore, it was hot air instead.
We got at least two more months, January and February, to go before things start to cool down again. And it's going to be two very long months.

Darling Harbour, Sydney.

Hari ni merayap dekat area Darling Harbour. Pagi terus pergi Paddy's Market cari barang and some souvenirs untuk families and friends. Best Paddy's Market ni, banyak benda menarik....duit pun macam air laju saja keluar. Lepas dah shopping sikit-sikit terus pergi layan IMAX. Sydney IMAX ni panggung IMAX paling besar dalam dunia, screen dia tinggi lapan tingkat. Cerita yang ada kali ni tak berapa menarik, jadi layan cerita Deep Sea 3D saja. Deep Sea ni dokumentari pasal laut dalam lah. Very informative and entertaining. Nasib tiket dapat concession price lepas tuh dapat discount 20% on top of that pula, so ok lah.

Gambar-gambar sekitar Darling Harbour.
Lepas layan IMAX masuk bilik hotel, lepak-lepak bagi sejuk badan. Lepas tuh keluar balik pergi makan kat Uighur Cuisine. Mula-mula aku ingat ni restoran Mongolia tapi rupanya Uighur ni kaum minoriti Islam yang tinggal di Xinjiang, China. Makanan kat kedai ni mostly mesti ada daging kambing...aku & wife main hentam saja order, nasib menu dia ada gambar. Kami order hand-made noodles, fried dumplings & lamb kebabs. Lamb kebabs dia paling besh. Kalau nak tau review food kat kedai ni boleh ushar sini. Bahasa dia orang ni pun lain, tak macam Chinese...orang Uighur ni rupa macam mixed Arab+China, putih-putih dan hidung mancung saja aweks-aweks kat dalam ni...hmmmmmmmm...don't worry sayang, abang look only, not doing any touching...nice to look, good to hold, once broken consider it sold...Hehehe.

Ni pun gambar-gambar sekitar Darling Harbour. Waktu siang memang sibuk kapal keluar masuk kat area ni.
Lepas makan kami decide nak pergi Sydney Opera house lagi sekali. Saja nak lepak-lepak layan sunset, sambil nak tunggu waktu maghrib. Manusia punyalah ramai sebab cuti Christmas dah start, lagipun hari ni Jumaat jadi banyaklah mat salleh ni pergi tonggang minum. Depa ni semua cukup suka sembang-sembang sambil berdiri sambil minum, tak kisah lah dalam pub or apa function pun, officemate aku cakap this is what we called socializing...ni serupa macam kita sembang-sembang kat kedai mamak minum teh tarik...cumanya depa berdiri sambil minum todi...Tak sangka cerdik betui depa ni semua kan? Aku pun pernah terjebak sekali pergi dengan officemate aku a few months ago, macam banggang saja rasa tapi nak buat macam mana dah culture depa macam ni...tapi aku minum ayaq coke la. Hehehe.
Kat bawah ni pula gambar dari bilik hotel, bilik on the 10th floor.

Auburn Gallipoli Mosque

Aku pun tak plan nak cari masjid ni, bila drive area situ semalam ternampak macam kubah masjid...jadi tadi pagi lepas bakar duit shopping dekat DFO aku singgah sat kat masjid ni. Kalau check website masjid ni, menarik juga sejarah dia...bangunan yang ada sekarang ni ambik masa almost 13 tahun nak siap...lama sebab funding buat masjid ni semuanya dari community kat area sini.

Macam-macam ada
Hari Isnin, the Mrs. ada some remaining work to do at the hospital jadi aku ambik peluang merayap sorang2 around Sydney CBD. Kali ni aku jalan kaki saja around CBD ni. Kalau seorang, memang aku suka jalan kaki sebab boleh tengok banyak benda...dan boleh pergi mana saja ikut kaki..tarak plans, just walk. Jumpa a few spots menarik, later boleh pergi berdua pula. Certain part of Sydney CBD almost similar macam lorong-lorong kat London or New York, similar tak tau nak describe macam mana...mungkin the feel kot.
Pagi Selasa, lepas subuh terus keluar. Drive all the way to Port Stephens, lebih kurang 3 jam drive up north from Sydney. Lepak dekat Nelson's Bay. Ambik tour pergi tengok wild dolphins. Boat tak lah besar sangat and orang pun tak ramai, 10-12 orang macam tu. About half an hour boat ride into the open sea, dah start nampak dolphins. Punyalah elusive wild dolphins ni, aku tangkap gambar haram tak lekat. Camera tak cukup laju...or aku yang memang lembap. Tapi at least dapat video, jadilah buat kenangan. Overall, memang worth trip ni. So kalau ada peluang, memang patut pergi Port Stephens. Kalau pergi the right season, boleh tengok both dolphins and whales.
On the way to Port Stephens, kat atas Sydney Harbour Bridge.
MV Surprise, kapal ushar dolphins.
On the way balik from Port Stephens tu, aku ambik jalan coastway...saja drive lalu tepi pantai. Laut punyalah bersih, scenery cun habis. Macam heaven on earth pula. Aku rasa kalau tua-tua nak mampus, mai lepak sini pun bagus. Hehehe.

Rabu lepas sembahyang raya terus drive pergi Blue Mountains. Habis satu hari kat sini. Yang ni pun memang best. Since drive sendiri so boleh buat little stop over kat tempat-tempat menarik. Tengok Wentworth Falls, Katoomba Falls, Three Sisters and segala bagai tempat yang aku sendiri pun tak ingat nama.

Sempat juga naik Skyway, Cableway and Railway dekat Scenic World. Skyway tu macam cable car biasa saja, cuma bezanya lantai cable car tuh cermin kaca...jadi boleh tengok bawah juga. Cableway tuh pula cable car biasa saja, cuma ride dia agak steep. Yang Railway ni lebih kurang macam roller coaster ride cuma ride dia pendek sangat...tak sampai 2 minit pun. Menarik juga sebab dia ascend or descend in almost vertical manner...mau tercabut jantung. Overall, semua rides ni ok-ok saja. Bukan sebab tak best tapi sebab mahal. Tak sepadan dengan harga, sat sangat rides ni semua...Tapi sebab dah sampai sini, kalau tak naik rasa rugi la pula kan.
Nampak tu Cableway kecik kat dalam gambar atas ni, aku ambik pic ni masa naik Skyway.
Raya Haji kat sini sambut hari Rabu, join sembahyang raya di Malaysian Hall. Orang tak ramai sebab sekarang ni musim cuti jadi banyak students and PR semua dah balik kampung. Lepas sembahyang, ada lah jamuan makan sikit-sikit. As usual, hari raya kalau tak sama mesti tak sah punya...Hehehe...tahun ni ada yang raya Rabu sebab Selasa hari wukuf kat Arab Saudi, ada yang raya hari Khamis sebab ikut Malaysia or negara sendiri...ada yang raya hari Jumaat sebab tengok anak bulan. Macam tuh pun boleh. Apapun, Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha, Maaf Zahir Batin.
Masa mula-mula cari tuh payah juga nak jumpa sebab tak tahu address...dengar orang cerita saja...aku pergi cari dgn wife malam tu...masuk nak order tengok lain macam saja...sah McD salah..the third McD masuk baru betul jumpa yang halal. Tapi once dah jumpa, memang happy meal lah...Hehehe. Tadi baru saja senyum kepuasan sebab seronok dapat makan KFC setelah sekian lama mengidam... :P

Taronga Zoo, Sydney.

Taronga Zoo ni something unique. Nak pergi kena naik feri dulu from Circular Quay (naik bas pun boleh, tapi almost semua orang naik feri), then bila dah sampai nak masuk dalam zoo kena naik cable car. Sebab main entrance zoo ni on top of the hill, so lepas naik cable car sampai puncak bukit barulah explore zoo ni. From the top of the cable car, pun dah boleh ushar segala binatang yang dok ada, tapi just a glimpse jek la.

Aku tengok binatang dalam zoo memang almost similar dengan any other zoo kat Australia ni but still zoo ni ada daya penarik dia tersendiri. Besar zoo ni, satu hari belum tentu habis kalau nak tengok semua binatang dalam ni. Gambar kat atas ni Komodo Dragon, gambar tuh tak justify size sebenar komodo ni...kalau tengok betul, besar macam orang...aku rasa almost 2 meters long. Komodo ni makanan feveret dia babi hutan...just imagine macam mana dia nak hunt babi hutan tuh. Yang cute comel lote tuh pula meerkat, spesies apa aku tak tau tapi memang asyik lepak macam tuh memanjang.
Aku dengan Mem sempat tengok bird show, yang ni memang best. Tapi rugi aku tak tangkap satu gambar pun sebab asyik dok layan. Macam-macam jenis burung ada and well-trained. So bukan bird brain lah, pandai semua burung ni. Ada satu session tuh, demostrator minta one volunteer tu take part. So satu awek ni dah volunteer, dia kena berdiri sambil pegang duit syiling. Demostrator tuh lepas sekor burung Galah from a far, burung ni terbang ambik duit syiling tu lepas tuh terbang balik konon-konon nak return duit syiling. Sekali burung tu letak cincin dalam palm awek tu.
Aku tengok orang lain pun tumpang menangis juga. Bini aku tak habis-habis dok kata kat aku...romantiknya...romantiknya...Hahaha. Cukup romantis...berapa daa balak ni bayar kat demostrator burung ni semua. Lain kali nak buat macam ni juga lah. Aku rasa awek ni kalau tak suka kat balak ni pun cakap jek laa dia accept...sebab dah depan public kan? Lepas ni belakang kira la. Hehehe.
Tapi make sure at least satu hari punya activity. Bersih, cantik and convenient, tempat makan semua ada. Cuma nak sembahyang kena koboi sikit la sebab tarak tempat. Aku dengan Mem selamba jek sembahyang kat padang tempat makan dalam zoo ni, mat salleh tengok buat donno jek.

Coogee Beach, NSW

Gambar nampak buruk sebab cuaca mendung nak hujan (plus camera aku cap cipan jek). Kalau sesapa datang area Coogee Beach ni, you should makan kat kedai ni. Memang recommended.

Sydney CBD

Just some views from a tiny part of Sydney CBD.
Inside view from Queen Victoria building (QVB), an old building built in 1898 to commemorate to the long-reigning monarch. Now, it is a prestigious shopping center catered for the most expensive and branded labels like Coach, Oroton, etc.
The Christmas tree in the center of QVB decorated with 15,000 Swarovski Crystals. This is just the top view of the tree from level 4 of the building.

Busy Bee
Been busy for the last couple of days. The 2nd big boss in the company was in town. Had several meetings with him. Discussed lot of things...my development path, our current office status, future business expansion, organization realignment, etc. Seems like exciting times ahead with lots of opportunities signing up for our services. Hopefully all of these are not just hot air talk only.
Thursday was terrible. Almost a complete flat out day. Reached home at almost 7pm and was winding myself down with some magazines and then suddenly got a call out for an urgent site visit. It was 10pm. Damn it, I shouldn't have pick up the phone. Off I went back to the office to pick some spares and arrive at site around 11pm. Another engineer was already there. The problem was on the E20K, one of its domain can't be brought back up after a planned shutdown. It's not due to faulty disk but somehow the boot reference was incorrect. Try booting from the mirror, no luck. Try net booting no luck also, the firewall is too thick. And we have no control on the firewall. These E20Ks with all of its Dynamic System Domains are totally out of my league. I just watched my officemate do his magic. This guy is damn good, what do you expect from 10 years Sun experience? What he did was mount the install CD in another domain, then net boot it through E20K interconnect. By 2am the domain is up and running again. By the time I reached home, it is almost 2:30 in the morning. And the next day I have another set of meetings, the first meeting is at 9am. Fun fun fun.
Right now, I'm glad its the weekend. Today later in the afternoon there is an early pre-Raya Haji open house. And on Sunday a BBQ session by the riverside. Not sure if I'm going to both events but its good to relax on these two days. It's time for me to think and reorganize. To get back on track. It's already December and soon a new year is coming up. My boss did mentioned that there are plans for me to travel again most likely some time early next year. And also more roles being thrown at me. I do hope all of these will come out good.
In the mean time, I am off to Sydney next week and should be back two days before Christmas.
